An Apology, 2 Years Overdue

In 2004, I went to the Anime Expo in LA. Soon after, I wrote about my experiences and included critiques of some AMVs (Anime Music Videos). I tried to put on this world-weary voice, which I shouldn’t have, I’m just not that cool. Anyway I was needlessly harsh on a video that set footage from a video game, one of the Final Fantasies I think, to Carmina Burana. The music was an excellent choice, and the scenes well chosen, and the whole piece was put together flawlessly. But I let other factors determine what I wrote about the piece in my wanna-be-cool-guy-voice. I’m biased against 3D graphics (that’s another story) and we had seen footage from the dame game in another video using a Celine Dion song, which drove me bonkers. Actually what really drove me bonkers was when the Celine Dion video won the drama category.
The artist of the Carmina Burana video emailed me. She had read my blog, such as it was, which I thought only my own relatives ever read. She didn’t even mention the video at first, just shared stories of going to the expo. We exchanged a few messages and finally it came out that she had borne the brunt of my grotesquely glib criticism. I promised to print an online apology.
Now here it is 2 years later, and I’m trying to make good even though it’s way too late. I lost all the emails, I don’t remember her name, I can’t find the video online anywhere, and I have no reason to believe she’ll ever read this. I hope she does though. I’m sorry.
