My classes at PNCA are through the Continuing Education department and are open to any high school graduate, and even some high school students with permission. Register here, under the heading "Book Arts." Visual Storytelling focuses on the narrative aspect of comics; how imagery, text, panel layouts, and other tools can be used most effectively to portray characters and immerse the reader in a story. This class will be offered again, at a time to be determined. Cartooning focuses on drawing skills particular to comic creation: creating art that has immediacy and economy, that plays well with text and takes advantage of repeating imagery in panels. This class will be offered again, at a time to be determined. In November of 2008, I taught a graphic novel workshop at the National Book Development Council of Singapore. The Instant Graphic Novel group project from that class is on display here. Myself and others will present a series of graphic novel workshops on at the annual Stumptown Comics Fest in April. Watch Stumptown's homepage for more information. |
